[Mod-Post] Please Read: Winter is Coming. Save a pimp’s life.

Hey everybody,

As you well know, up here in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is coming up soon. You might not know that every year, thousands of cats die from exposure and starvation in the winter months. There is not enough room in our shelters to take care of all the cats that get rescued, so sadly, many shelters euthanize the cats deemed "unadoptable" to clear up space. Most of the time, there is nothing wrong with these cats once you get them comfortable in a new living situation. They have emotional problems at the shelter as a result of the harsh conditions they have faced and the fact that shelter cats do not get enough play time. When adapted to stable living conditions, though, these "unadoptable" cats can be just as loving and sweet as any other cat.

We're not asking you to adopt a cat if you don't have the time or the money to take care of it. In fact, we discourage the frivolous purchase of animals. But if you do have the time and the money, and would like your own cat, please visit your local animal shelter.

(For ethical reasons, we at /r/pimpcats recommend supporting kill-free shelters and Humane Society shelters over pro-euthanasia shelters, like those owned by PETA.)

If you cannot afford to take in a cat, we encourage you to make a donation to your local shelter. The money goes a long way to help with the purchase of food, toys, etc.

And finally, if you can't keep a cat, but wouldn't mind looking after one for a few weeks, you should check out fostering programs (which help young cats get socialized) and TNR (Trap-neuter-return) programs. TNR programs are vital in reducing feral and homeless cat populations. Contact your local shelter if you are interested. Often times, fostering and TNR programs are of little to no cost to you, and they go a long way to ensure the safety and happiness of cats.

Remember, a real pimp takes care of his own. So get out there and save a pimp's life.
